Citizen Science: City Nature Challenge - Newport Lakes Mothing Night

  • Newport Lakes 2 Lakes Drive Newport, VIC, 3015 Australia (map)

Are you ready to take on the City Nature Challenge 2026? Over the ANZAC Day weekend, Hobsons Bay is joining a global four-day challenge where cities across the world collaborate to share nature observations.

By simply photographing plants or animals in our local parks and wetlands and uploading them to the iNaturalist app, you help scientists track local biodiversity while having fun outdoors.

We want to see Hobsons Bay on the leaderboard! Prizes are available for Hobsons Bay residents in the following categories:

  • Most different species observed

  • Most observations in total

  • Best animal photo

  • Best plant photo

  • Best underwater photo!

Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre is proud to partner with Hobsons Bay City Council, Friends of Newport Lakes, and Friends of Williamstown Wetlands to host two exciting guided events.

At this Newport Lakes Mothing Night, you can discover the hidden world of our night-time pollinators! We will be setting up lights to attract and identify local moth species.
